About Me

My photo
I am a person who loves people, and I try to draw inspiration and find the beauty in everything. I am motivated and passionate about the things I do. I have wonderful people in my life. I have lots of ideas that I don't always know how to make a reality. But that's alright- life's a start.

Black, Red, and Bows

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving!

Millie is all ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow!

I had my wisdom teeth removed last Friday in the hopes of being completely healed by the big Turkey Day tomorrow....
Alas, it looks like I will be making my dining selections from mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, mushy casseroles, and all things soft and delicious. That's kind of okay with me, because when we have Thanksgiving, there are usually too many good things to choose from anyway! We really do it up at our house.
What's your favorite part/ tradition of Thanksgiving?
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

When Time Permits, I Get Dressed Up

No Tricks, Just Treats

I love that the end of October came faster than I expected! It was a very long month of teaching, but it went better than I thought it would, and the end is in very near sight! Halloween is definitely one of my favorite holidays (I went to my first two Halloween parties of the year last night), and I am thoroughly enjoying the treats that this time of year brings!

Living in Leather

I haven't been one to wear much leather in my life, but I recently found the perfect pair of leather shorts at Express. I could LIVE in these shorts! I dressed them up for a friend's birthday party last night, and then unabashedly wore them again all day today with a tee shirt. My mom thinks they make me look like a "Harley girl." I don't know about that, but I do know that I have the following ladies to thank for their inspiration via their blogs. :)

Progress Reports

It's been some time since my last post due to my new job taking up a lot of my time and energy! On top of my job, all the extra things I'm doing on the side (additional ensembles).... it really adds up! I just finished writing my students' progress reports (phew!), and after looking at how all of them are doing, I thought about what a progress report for me would say these days. Probably something along the lines of this, as far as being a new teacher goes:

On a scale of 1 (low)-10(high):
Needs improvement: 7 (always more to be done)
Learns quickly (because she has to): 9
Exhausted on a daily basis: 7
Has fun with her students: 6-7 (depends on the class)
Effort: 10

I don't know. Something like that.

Isn't music supposed to go IN your ears?

So, I always thought music was supposed to go INTO your ears... you know, when you listen to it. Lately, I have so much going on musically in my life that I feel like I now have music coming OUT OF my ears! It's craziness. Let me give you the scoop.
I teach elementary school music Monday through Friday, so during the day I'm listening to, singing, and teaching songs like this:

Every other Monday night I help out a good friend with a new Glee club, so Monday nights sound something like this (literally; we started with "Don't Stop Believin"):

Tuesday nights I have community chorus where we are in the process of learning some fantastic pieces, so Tuesday night sounds something like this:

This week I begin conducting at a local church.... I'm not sure what that will sound like yet.....

Last Friday night I went to an Eisley  concert, which was amazing! They were on tour for their most recent album, Valleyscapes, but they played a throwback called "I Wasn't Prepared" that was my absolute favorite part of the concert. Here's the video for that song (the one that all the members of the band prefer to the first one they shot):

So that's my life as of lately..... music, music, music! In my spare time I still somehow like to listen to artists such as:

Warm Me Up

La-la-la-Labor Day

Grateful

I know today is Labor Day, not Thanksgiving, but I am taking today to really think about all that I have to be thankful for. This past week definitely had its rough points, but through it all I had the best man, friends and family to help get me through it all. I am so happy for what I have been given in this life.

Happy Happy Friday!

Happy Friday, lovelies! I would like to share some more wonderful choral music and a bit of poetry with you all today. Mind you, I do not claim to be any kind of avid poetry-reader. Rather, I look for good poetry that is used in music, and from there I find poets whose words I enjoy, and consequently, I read other poems by them.

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)

i fear no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Please follow this link to hear Eric Whitacre's "This Marriage," you do not want to skip this, I promise. It is drop-dead gorgeous, and I will absolutely insist on having a choir sing it at my wedding someday.

May these vows and this marriage be blessed.
May it be sweet milk,
this marriage, like wine and halvah.
May this marriage offer fruit and shade
like the date palm.
May this marriage be full of laughter,
our every day a day in paradise.
May this marriage be a sign of compassion,
a seal of happiness here and hereafter.
May this marriage have a fair face and a good name,
an omen as welcomes the moon in a clear blue sky.
I am out of words to describe
how spirit mingles in this marriage.
